The Kalu’ak are a tribe of Tuskarr’s, who kinda look like a humanoid/walrus type of people. Kalu’ak was introduced for the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, therefore, they are found in Northrend.

A notable reward of this faction, which can be purchased at the Kalu’ak Quartermasters, is the Mastercraft Kalu’ak Fishing Pole, the second best fishing pole in the game, which also allows underwater breathing. You can also purchase the penguin pet Pengu from them, which can help you at any stage of your pet collection achievements.

Remember, if you picked Human as your race add an extra 10% rep to anything I list because of your Diplomacy racial.

This is a fairly straightforward reputation grind.

QUESTING

Kalu’ak non-repeatable quest hubs can be found in 3 areas:

• Dragonblight: Moa’ki Harbor at (48.5,74.5)
• Borean Tundra: Kaskala at (65.4,45.2) & Unu’pe at (76.9,50.9)
• Howling Fjord: Kamagua at (25,58.1)

There is a transport that links all these places together, it’s a giant Turtle boat! So you can travel between hubs to make your questing rep grind a lot easier. Completing all of these quests will put you a little bit into revered.

DAILY QUESTS

There are three daily quests, one at each of the above mentioned zones. They are all pretty straightforward and give 500 reputation each. Following this method, you’ll find this reputation grind lasting about fourteen days.

◘ Preparing For The Worst (Borean Tundra) Lv.68:

- Pick this quest up from Utaik.

- Gather 8 Kaskala Supplies.

- You will find the supplies scattered through the camp in the general area of (73,53), they look like sparkling baskets.

◘ Planning For Your Future (Dragonblight) Lv.71:

- Pick this quest up from Trapper Mau’i.

- Collect 12 Snowfall Glade Pups.

- You can find the Pups scattered throughout the Wolvar camps north of where you pick up the quest. Just right-click the pups to acquire them.

◘ The Way To His Heart… (Howling Fjord) Lv.69:

- This quest has a few requirements to meet before it is unlocked, please refer to this link for a detailed explanation on how to unlock it.

- Pick this quest up from Anuniaq.

- Swim around the island with the Anuniaq’s Net you get for this quest. Throw it at Schools of Tasty Reef Fish in order to get enough fish in your inventory for the next part of the quest. I’d say get a minimum of 9 fish (These fish can also drop from Great Reef Sharks).

- Once you have enough fish find a Reef Bull around (31.7,74.4) and throw fish at him to get him to follow you. The Bull will follow you for a limited amount of time, once he stops following you use another fish to get him to start again. Using this method get him to cross the reef and lure him to any Reef Cow. Once he is close enough they will sparkle with hearts and you will get credit for the quest.

- If you don’t feel like finding more then 9 fish you can always try the alternate way: use one fish to make the Bull ready, and then aggro the Cow across the strait. As long as you don’t kill the Cow, this should work, and save you a lot more time than the normal method.

KALU’AK FISHING DERBY STRATEGY COMING SOON

BOOTY BAY FISHING CONTEST

Every Sunday at 2 P.M. server time there will be a fishing contest held in Stranglethorn Vale. To win you must fish out 40 Speckled Tastyfish and turn them in to Riggle Bassbait, in Booty Bay, before any other contestant. Winning the Booty Bay fishing contest will get you the Master Angler of Azeroth Achievement.

There are no rules saying low level players can’t win this if they have the required skills…but honestly it’s a long shot so I am not going to post strats for low level players.

Remember, sometimes a few seconds is all you need to beat someone else and pull you to victory

PRE-CONTEST PREPARATIONS

◘ Set your Hearthstone in Boot Bay

◘ Set your mini map finder to ‘Find Fish’. Refer to Fish Don’t Leave Footprints

◘ Turn on Auto-Loot

◘ Have enough bag space for the Tasty Fish and other random fish ups

◘ Make sure your fishing skill is high enough to where you don’t catch junk in the Tasty Fish Schools: skill 225+

◘ Get some Elixirs of Water Walking, or have a class like DK/Shaman/Paladin that can buff you with Water Walking/Path of Frost/Crusader Aura.

◘ Health/Mana pots come in handy too if you get into PvP

DEALING WITH PVP

*If you are not on a PvP server, I suppose you can ignore this section. If you are, there are a couple of ways you can deal with it: running away or getting some protection.

• Running Away - IMO it’s the best course to take, that’s what I did to win. Don’t go fishing anywhere near any towns, most likely opposing factions will be around. I am Alliance so I fished no where near the Horde town or Booty Bay. Furthermore, if you see an opposing faction that you know can probably beat you up, or they have a posse, run away to another spot where you don’t have to deal with them. If they do kill you, spirit rez (yes it costs money but saves time) and run to another area to fish. When I won the contest I got killed twice, spirit raised twice and still won.

• Protecting Yourself – Some people are better at PvP then others, if you feel you can faceroll anyone trying to mess with you, go ahead and do it. Get in your PvP gear and knock them out if they try and fish in your pool or if you want to take theirs (no one is nice in this contest I learned). Another thing you can do is get your friends to protect you! No horde will want to mess with you if you outnumber them.

FISHING SPOT

• Scouting – The odds of winning the fishing tournament the first time you try are very slim. I recommend you keep your eyes open to scout what spots are the most popular and which are the least visited. Having this knowledge of contestants on your server can give you an advantage because if you can find an area that is sparsely populated during the contest, you will have a tremendous edge in quickly fishing up tasty fish.

• Early Bird – Make sure you are situated in your starting fishing spot before the contest begins. Being at your spot early will give you time to make sure there are no nearby opposing faction, or that you are not in an area that is too full of competition. Usually if you claim your spot other players won’t be close to you because they don’t want to have competition nearby either.

TIME SAVING TIPS

• Nice Guys Finish Last – I learned that during my previous participation in the contest before I won. I’m not a jerk, BUT, at least on my server, it’s every fisherman for himself! I was quite mad when the first few times I tried the contest I had both Horde and fellow Alliance fishing in my Tasty Fish Schools =( So lesson learned, just fish where you can, even if someone already has a spot claimed because chances are they won’t give you the same courtesy. Plus, even if you and most of the players are cordial, someone else might not be, and they will get the timer edge because they won’t skip the closest pool to them just because someone else is already there; they won’t lose time trying to find another school. Saving time is solely dependent on how quick you can catch those Tasty Fish, so just hit what you see first and forget about being nice for this contest.

• Swimming Slows You Down – Don’t ever swim your way to a fishing spot (unless your a druid in your swim form). Swimming slows you down considerably, therefore, get yourself some elixirs of water walking or a Deathknight friend with Path of Frost in your party. Doing this will allow you to ride everywhere, facilitating quicker pool finds as well as beating others that might be running to the same spot.

• Sprint – If you don’t have an ability to sprint, like Rogues or Druids, get yourself some Swiftness Potions. Sometimes there are pools near you that will require you mounting up to get to them quicker instead of walking, but mounting up has an annoying cast timer. To avoid the mount up time, just pop sprint or a swiftness pot to get to your next pool before anyone else.

If your a Rogue there is a useful Glyph you can use, Glyph of Blurred Speed.

Speed enchants to boots will come in handy too, Tuskarr’s Vitality.

• Holidays – I don’t think that it was a coincidence that I won the tourney on Easter. There was considerably less people on the server, so it was a bit easier with less competition around. If you don’t have a problem with celebrating after the tourney is over, or just not celebrating holidays at all, IMO it’s historically the best time to do the fishing tournament.

• Macros – Lucky you! You got 40 Tasty Fish before hearing the announcement of a winner, so you might have a chance. Quickly hearth to Booty Bay and make sure you have a turn in macro for the fish. If you are like me you might be so nervous you might fumble around and press a few wrong buttons.

I hope my personal experience and tips will help you become one of the 52 yearly winners of the Stranglethorn Vale Fishing Extravaganza, and one of the few on your server to hold the Salty Title.

Wyrmrest is a Wrath of the Lich King faction. It is one of the more interesting ones to work on because a lot of the questing you do to progress through one of the most amazing story lines in the game is related to their lore.

Getting exalted with the Wyrmrest not only benefits you in getting this achievement, but also with a few others. Having exalted status with them is one of the requirements for the achievement “Northrend Vanguard“. Furthermore, Cielstrasza, the Wyrmrest Quartermaster, sells the Reins of the Red Drake at exalted, which can help you with any stage of your Mount Collection achievements.

There are a few ways to gain reputation with the Wyrmrest Accord:

• Questing
• Dailies
• Dungeon Grinding
• Turn-In Items

Remember, if you picked Human as your race add an extra 10% rep to anything I list because of your Diplomacy racial.

QUESTING

There are tons of quests all over Northrend that randomly award reputation for multiple factions including Wyrmrest Accord, so listing every single quest that would give you WA reputation would just hit you with a wall of text. Therefore, it’s best to give you some general tips that will help you get the most WA rep. Assuming you have completed all non-repeatable quests that award reputation for this faction, you should be at about 15,987 reputation out of the necessary 42,000 (about halfway through honored).

- Do all you can in Dragonblight! Most of their quests there are centered around the storyline with The Wyrmrest Accord, so for your quest to rep ratio, this area will give you the most. The Coldarra area of the Borean Tundra also has a few quests that will help you raise WA rep.

- Start the only Dungeon quest line that rewards you with WA rep if you have done all you can outside of the dungeons. Start with the quest The Struggle Persists, which can be picked up from Raelorasz at level 77. This pushes you through 3 more dungeon quests that give you WA reputation, all done within The Oculus.

DAILY QUESTS

All daily quests associated with The Wyrmrest Accord reward you with 325 reputation. Doing all three daily quests every day nets you 975 reputation. If this is your sole way of gaining rep, it should take you about 27 days.

◘ Drake Hunt (Lv. 69)

- In order to reach this quest you must complete a quest series that starts with Basic Training.

- After you complete this the first time (rewards you with 455 once), this quest becomes a run of the mill daily.

- Pick this up from Raelorasz at the Coldarra in the Borean Tundra.

◘ Aces High! (Lv.80)

- After you complete this the first time (rewards you with 455 once), this quest becomes a run of the mill daily.

- Pick this quest up from Corastrasza at the Coldarrra in Borean Tundra (she is on one of the platforms that hovers above the Nexus).

◘ Defending Wyrmrest Temple (Lv. 71)

- In order to reach this quest you must finish a quest series that begins with A Strange Device

- This particular daily is unique because it offers an achievement in itself that requires you beat a timer for your start to finish quest completion.

- Please refer to the achievement Rapid Defense for information on the quest as well as how to complete it.

DUNGEON GRINDING

If you are really not into questing or doing repeatable daily quests, you can always grind your way to exalted. The Wyrmrest Accord is one of the championable factions, which means this can drastically speed up the reputation process, depending on how many dungeons you do. Before you start the dungeon grind though, you must reach friendly status with the WA in order to purchase Tabard of the Wyrmrest Accord from their Quartermaster for 1 gold.

Once you have the tabard, you can start raking up reputation! Wearing the tabard while killing mobs in level 80 Northrend dungeons, will convert any reputation from them into WA rep. Keep in mind that normal level 80 dungeons give you less rep then heroic mode dungeons. On average you will rake up 1500-2000 rep points per Heroic dungeon if you clear everything.

Level 80 dungeons generally consist of the heroic versions of all 5-man Northrend dungeons, and normal modes for the following dungeons:

◘ Halls of Lightning
◘ The Culling of Stratholme
◘ The Occulus
◘ Utgarde Pinnacle

TURN IN ITEMS

Another quick way for you to gain reputation with the WA is by purchasing a Wyrmrest Commendation Badge in Dalaran for one Emblem of Triumph.

You can get Emblem’s of Triumph from the Northrend Heroic Dailies, Heroic Dungeon Bosses, Epic Dungeon Spoils Bags, or by downgrading Emblems of Frost.

Using the badge will increase your reputation by 520 points.

- Getting this achievement is important because it is part of the criterion for ‘What A Long Strange Trip It’s Been’, which rewards you with a Violet Proto Drake 310% mount.

- Completing this achievement also rewards you with the title “Elder“.

GENERAL LUNAR FESTIVAL TIPS

In general, the requirements for this holiday meta are probably the least challenging of all the holidays. In essence, a big majority of what you need to do is travel; traveling will grant you most of the achievements, as they require you visit certain Elders throughout Azeroth, and visiting these Elders provide you with Coins of Ancestry which help you get almost all of the rest of the achievements.

- Since most of your achievement requirements revolve around visiting those Elders, the best thing to do for this holiday is find the most convenient way for you to travel!

• If your not a Mage, get a one, they can make porting around all the zones so much faster.

• Can’t find a Mage? Bind in either Satthrath City or Dalaran and use their city ports to get around quicker.

• Study the maps I have made with the Elder locations on each continent, and from there plan the most effective route for you to take.

• If you are lower level, you can always reach most Elders by asking a few friends and a Warlock to summon you around.

• Get yourself something to do while you are flying around instead of just staring at the screen waiting to land: Alt Tab to your fave sites, do some homework, or do some chores =D .

- Make sure to visit Moonglade, there are some unique vendors there that sell items you need for achievements, as well as a quest there for an achievement.

** You will have to be level 77 to complete this achievement. Some of the highest level Dungeons where some of the Elders are found require you to be level 77 to enter. **

** If partially completed some of the Elder location achievements last year, this year they will be fully wiped and you will have to restart your visitations over again. **

You can obtain Elune’s Blessing buff by being near Omen when either you or someone else defeats him. Though, you must be on the quest Elune’s Blessing in order for you to get it.

Players must be level 40 in order to get the quest from Valadar Starsong in Moonglade.

Omen is fairly easy for a level 80 group, and even if he does seem to pose a challenge, again, you can gain the buff as long as you are near him when he is defeated and you are on the Elune’s Blessing quest.

To complete this achievement you must buy yourself one of the pieces of Festive Clothing from Valadar Starsong with your Ancient Coins

Valadar Starsong is the only Festival Vendor that sells the clothing you need, she is located in Moonglade.

There are 6 different garbs for you to choose from, all costing 5 Ancient Coins each. Their colors include Black, Green, Purple, Pink, Blue, and Teal; you have plenty of options to match with your other gear.

You can be any level in order to purchase these garbs, but you have to be able to get to Moonglade because they are BoP! So if you have the coin and the will to get yourself to the vendor, you should have no problem getting this achievement.

Shooting off firecrackers in a certain amount of time is starting to sound pretty familiar when it comes to holiday achievements. If you remember the other similar achievements, employ the same strategies:

◘ Get 10 Festival Firecrackers and bind the Firecracker icon to a hot key for fast use, or better, to your mouse wheel.

◘ Spam click away, you will beat the timer easily.

GETTING FESTIVAL FIRECRACKERS

1) Buy Festival Firecrackers from the Lunar Festival Vendor for 3 silver each.

2) Don’t want to travel to a Festival Vendor? Go to the Auction House and buy some!

** You can complete this achievement after the holiday is over if you still have enough Festival Firecrackers. **

Visit Lunar Elders! It is the only way for you to acquire Coins of Ancestry, more specifically one per elder you visit.

Getting 50/76 of the available Ancient Coins during the Lunar Festival is a big harder then it’s previous incarnations with lower requirements. It will get harder because in order to get 50 coins you will have to travel into dungeons to find elders and/or into enemy territory to access some Elders, not just rely on the Elders found in friendly zone areas. If you want to get the meta holiday achievement for the Lunar Festival, you will have to complete this achievement.

Being a high level player is not a prerequisite for this achievement, as most of the elders are found all over Azeroth, which means they are found in low level zones too. If you wish to visit the Elders in higher level zones, you can always trek there on your own, or ask a Warlock buddy to summon you there.

Find the Lunar Elders by referring to the following achievements for coordinates on their locations.

• Elders of Eastern Kingdoms

• Elders of Kalimdor

• Elders of Northrend

• Elders of the Dungeons

• Elders of the Horde

Visit Lunar Elders! It is the only way for you to acquire Coins of Ancestry, more specifically one per elder you visit. Aside from finding Elders in a majority of the zones in Azeroth, they can also be found in Capital cities and certain dungeons.

Being a high level player is not a prerequisite for this achievement, as most of the elders are found all over Azeroth, which means they are found in low level zones too. If you wish to visit the Elders in higher level zones, you can always trek there on your own, or ask a Warlock buddy to summon you there.
